Didlake is an approved provider of Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) through the Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) Division of Rehabilitative Services (DRS). DRS collaborates with high school students with disabilities, their families, schools, and community service providers like Didlake to support transitioning students beginning at age 14 and until graduation.
Didlake provides two areas of Pre-ETS services: Work-Based Learning Experiences and Workplace Readiness Training.
Work-Based Learning Experiences
Students gain exposure to the world of work and an introductory understanding of workplace rules and expectations through:
- Job exploration at our administrative offices
- Workplace tours
- Community based instruction
- Informational interviews
- Job shadowing
- Career mentorship
- Simulated work experience
- Temporary seasonal/after school/weekend unpaid internships
- Temporary seasonal/after school/weekend paid and unpaid Work Experience
Workplace Readiness Training
Students prepare for the work world through classroom instruction and community-based learning with a 1 instructor to 4 student ratio. Workplace Readiness Training is an eight week program which includes classroom instruction and the practical applications of classroom learning in community settings.
The curriculum includes: communication and learning styles; job seeking and resume writing; dressing for success; interview preparation; community safety and travel training; networking; social media and relationships; money management; recreational opportunities; and nutrition and meal preparation.
