Valerie Spencer, AVP of Strategic Growth & Engagement, was a guest on the Workplace Innovator podcast with host Mike Petrusky.
Valerie talked about the growth of our facilities management business line from custodial and grounds maintenance to include general maintenance and specialized trades. This expansion led Didlake to get involved with the International Facility Management Association (IFMA) and for several team members, including Valerie, to obtain IFMA’s Facility Management Professional (FMP) credentials. Today, Valerie is a board member of the Capital Chapter of IFMA (CCIFMA), and she recently led the team that planned the CCIFMA Workplace and Expo.
“We have a large portfolio of jobs for people with disabilities doing custodial work and grounds maintenance. That work has grown into opportunities in general maintenance and those individuals who are looking to achieve more with skilled certifications then can move into electrical, mechanical and plumbing components of facility management… When you think about disability, we’re also talking about veterans who bring the requisite skills and expertise but may need some support readjusting to civilian life and we want to find the right opportunities for them. With the SMEs we bring on board and with the alignment to what the government and the state agencies are needing, facilities management makes a lot of sense,” Valerie said.
