Didlake joins the nation in celebrating National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). Led by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) and held annually in October, NDEAM celebrates the contributions of America’s workers with disabilities and promotes supportive, inclusive employment policies and practices.
NDEAM traces its roots to 1945, when Congress enacted a law declaring the first week in October each year as “National Employ the Physically Handicapped Week.” Congress later expanded the week to a month and changed the name.
In recognition of the important role people with disabilities play in a diverse and inclusive American workforce, the theme for this year’s NDEAM is “Disability: Part of the Equity Equation.” Learn more about the theme in this blog post. An easy way to commemorate NDEAM is to print and display ODEP’s NDEAM poster in your office, school or other community location. It is available in English and Spanish. For other suggestions to celebrate NDEAM, check out ODEP’s 31 Days of NDEAM.
“NDEAM provides an opportunity for us to raise disability awareness and demonstrate to employers the many benefits of having a disability-inclusive work culture. It is also a time for us to celebrate the accomplishments of our employees with disabilities who provide exceptional customer service to our customers and employment partners,” said Donna Hollis, Didlake CEO.
Celebrate with Didlake
We invite you to follow along as we celebrate NDEAM. Over the next couple of weeks, we will spotlight some of our employees with disabilities working at our contract sites and other locations, as well as some of our Employment Services consumers. We will post these spotlights on in Didlake News as well as on our social media channels. Check back soon and connect with us!
