Spotlight on Didlake Customers
A City of Service – Spotlight on the Pentagon
Approximately 23,000 employees, both military and civilian, work at the Pentagon in some capacity as defenders of our country. The Pentagon houses the headquarters of The Department of Defense, which is the number one customer of the AbilityOne Program. Through the AbilityOne Program, Didlake won a contract to provide custodial services for portions of this small city back in 1992.
Recently, Didlake was awarded the Prime Contract for custodial services at the Pentagon, overseeing two subcontractors and a total of 2.5 million square feet at the largest low-rise office building in the world. Over 100 Didlake employees with disabilities have the honor of working side by side with the highly decorated civil servants who fill its lengthy corridors.
The Pentagon contract is a stellar example of the high quality services Didlake provides for the Government. Not only that, it is Didlake’s largest contract site. So when tragedy struck the Pentagon on September 11, 2001, 132 consumers and Didlake staff members were on site – many working near the area struck by the hijacked jetliner. On that day we saw our consumers and the staff that supports them give back to the community in ways no one could have imagined. They worked side-by-side with soldiers and firefighters, helping to save lives and get people home where they needed to be. Many of the same Didlake people who were there that day are still on the job, and proud to say “I work at the Pentagon.”
